Black Student Union at UC-Irvine

Picture

Our Mission:
It is the mission of the Black Student Union at UC Irvine to create and promote a supportive and inclusive community, while also intellectually challenging the Black students on the campus of UC Irvine. This organization, established specifically for political reasons, works for a more humane and culturally relevant college experience for the students on this campus. The Black Student Union strives to provide educational, cultural, and social programs that we hope will inspire our community to take action through activism as well as outreach on and off our home campus. This organization serves as the Umbrella for the other Black organizations on campus, with our ultimate goal being to provide a welcoming and united space for our community while also stimulating an awareness of political, economic, and social forces affecting people of the African Diaspora

Our Name
:

The name of this organization shall always reflect the fundamental political reasons for its founding. “Black” is a political term that encompasses the entire African Diaspora regardless of cultural or national ties. Recognizing our members collectively as the “Black” is not a question of self-identity but instead a collective position against racism and social injustice.
